This is the first sequel of the Karloff Mummy. Karloff was not the Mummy this time out. Tom Tyler who was mostly a western star and also Captain Marvel in the movie serial got the role. He was picked because of his resemblence to Karloff which let Universal use footage from the original. The new Universal wanted a story with less romance and more horror. This movie was made up of leftovers. The set was from Green Hell a James Whale film and the music was from Son Of Frankenstein. The movie went $4,000 over budget and was a hit. It set the stage for Lon Chaney to come in and make 3 more sequels. Tom Tyler could not do the sequels because he was crippled with arthritis. He died of a heat attack at the age of 50. The Mummys Hand was one of the largest money making films of that year. This film is often overlooked but it is definately worth watching,.
