Sometimes in movies there is always one character that may appear on screen for only a few minutes or only in one or two films in a supporting role but makes a lasting impression. Ygor is such a character. The Bride of Frankenstein was on screen for not even 15 minutes but her image is familer even to this day. On The Munsters TV show, Uncle Gilbert (the Creature From The Black Lagoon wasn't on the show for more than 4 minutes but a lot of folks remember his appearance. Ygor appeared in 2 films (luckily for us) The Son Of Frankenstein and The Ghost of Frankenstein. Even though he was killed in the first film, just like Larry Talbot Universal found a way to bring him back. How could this character lose since it was done by Bela Lugosi. Lugosi once said that Dracula was his favorite role and Ygor was his second favorite. Ygor was a blacksmith that survived the hangmans noose. He was hanged for stealing dead bodies....so they said. He found the Frankenstein monster before either of the 2 sons of Frankenstein. After getting the good doctors to revive the monster , he would use the monster to get revenge on his enemies. In Ghost of Frankenstein, he actually got his brain transplanted in the Frankenstein monster. It was a short lived victory because the body rejected the brain and he went blind. What good are eyes that cannot see!
